Update as of 2nd January, 2011

This club has officially changed hands.
Regular meetings, that have previously been held in an unofficial capacity, are due to recommence soon.
The new President of the Christchurch Anime Tribe is Michael Willis (a.k.a. Monogreen).

There may be a few changes to the website and it may be a while before everything is running smoothly so thanks for your patience during the change-over.

For more information on this will probably be available on our club forums.

The Anime Tribe has a Facebook group for previous members to keep in touch with one another and new members to find out more information.
This is a closed group and all requests to join are moderated :)

If you have any questions about the club:

DVD Review Competition

Entries close on Thursday the 29th of September; 2005 at 11:59pm.
The idea of this is to put together some opinions on the anime DVDs that you can get in this country.
We want:

  • short reviews (200 words max) that people who don't know much about anime can understand
  • reviews on anime that can be bought in this country (consult the MadmanNZ if you aren't sure)
  • good spelling and grammar
  • you to submit your entry by email or snail mail to P.O. Box 28-126, Christchurch
The winner will win their choice of Japanese art pencil board from a selection we have, including Inu Yasha, DNAngel, DragonBallZ and Love Hina.
All of these submissions are considered property of the Anime Tribe and may be published either in anime stores, Tribe publications or on our website.
Good luck!

Outing

On August 14th we decided to get out and about for a bit:

Meeting at Gamestation 11am,
Timezone Moorhouse at 11:30am,
and coming back to the regular venue at
2:30pm to watch Memories.

Gamestation is gave members who showed up each a free DVD hire when we went to check out their selection and let them know what we think.
I emailed Callum some of our comments.. but if you still have some insight to share, email me and I'll pass stuff on next time I contact him.
Thanks Joanna, for your email.

After Gamestation, we went to Timezone and played some games. It was really cool to see people having a go... and thanks for sticking around for lunch at BurgerKing (even if some people were getting supermarket food instead ^_^).

Big thanks to Piezo and Mickey for driving us back to watch anime. Car pooling is good *nodnod*. Thanks also to Ghost for bringing along chocolate icecream!!

Utena Movie and the start of Kenshin

Hi all.
Sorry this note hasn't been cross posted from our main page until now.

On Sunday 1st of May we are finishing off Utena with the Movie. If you have seen the series with us you will appreciate seeing the complete story.

Also we are starting Rurouni Kenshin again from the beginning.
I figured some of you would be lost if we start from episode 30 something so we are beginning from the very start and aiming to cover the whole series and the OAVs as well.

From here on we hope to be having weekly meetings for the next wee while at least.
We will be showing 3 episodes each of 3 different series so people can come for only part of a meeting if they chose to.

(And please remember that if you do plan to come in during a showing don't come into the room or walk in front of people until the credits are a-rollin' ^_^)

On the 16th I had an interview recorded with a woman from National Radio about the NZ Anime industry and Tribe.. I'll let you know the moment I am informed as to its play date/time.

Message ends ^_^

New Kid on the Block - Borders

There's a new store at Westfield - Riccarton called Borders. It's on the eastern most side of the mall (across the road near Coffee Culture). I've been to their website and they have branches in Aussie, NZ, Singapore and the UK and they stock books, DVDs and music... of more interest to us, they have a really big Manga section.

And I mean LARGE. I spoke to the guys there and it appears they still have 2 shipping containers full of stuff to unload and they can probably order in anything else you would want to track down. (They even have the Viz titles that we haven't been able to get hold of for a while.)

Here's their website if you want to have a hunt for specific titles. Here's a list of just some that I found instore today.

  • Akira

  • Maison Ikkoku

  • Ranma½

  • Mermaid Saga

  • Kare Kano

  • XxxHOLiC

  • Tokyo Babylon

  • X/1999

  • Chobits

  • Card Captor Sakura

  • Wish

  • Angelic Layer

  • Peach Girl

  • Tokyo Mew Mew

  • Cowboy Bebop

  • Trigun

  • Hellsing

  • Escaflowne

  • Battle Royale

  • Fushigi Yūgi

  • Revolutionary Girl Utena

  • Love Hina

  • Oh! My Goddess (and "Wrong Number")

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion

  • RahXephon

  • Gundam Wing

  • Gravitation

  • Digimon

  • Pokémon

  • Saber Marionette J

  • Model

  • Rebirth

  • Real Bout High School

  • Yu Yu Hakusho

  • Any way there are zillions more titles than just that so, if you are feeling rich, then go and have a look ^_^ (I hope all those links work.)

I suggest if there is any stuff that you want that isn't in there, you order it (or if you want to buy stuff get in quick) because the number of people who came in and pawed over the books while we were there was phenominal (and little kids too). You never know how battered the pages and spines are going to get in the next wee while... OK, I'm just picky ^_^

    Important Links

I'm having difficulty getting the forum up and running. It seems that phpbb has been having a lot of problems with worm activities and has needed to be upgraded about every 2 weeks lately. Once there is a stable version of the software out we will get the forum back up and running. Sorry for all the fuss.

    In the mean time:

    Christchurch Anime Tribe LiveJournal Community.
